With these words, founding editor and publisher Henry R. Luce began "A Prospectus for a New Magazine," laying the foundation for what would become America's first picture magazine. From its premiere issue on November 23, 1936, LIFE Magazine fulfilled this ambitious vision with unprecedented photographic coverage - from the intimate drama of daily life to the spectacle of world events. More than 2,100 issues of LIFE have been published to date, featuring tens of thousands of images.
