Lillian Moller GILBRETH
Lillian Moller Gilbreth was a pioneer in the field of motion study. Together with her husband, Frank, she developed work methods that increased industrial production and helped to establish the industrial engineering profession. A mother of 12, she was one of the first women to combine a career with her home life.

1878 Lillian Moller is born May 24 in Oakland, California.
1900 - Earns a B.A. from the University of California at Berkley and is the school's first female commencement speaker.
1904 - Marries Frank Gilbreth on October 19.
1911-1917 - Lillian and Frank write several books on their motion and management studies.
1915 - The Gilbreths start a consulting firm to help improve efficiency in factories.
1921 - Becomes the first female member of the Society of Industrial Engineers.
1924-1969 - After her husband's death, she heads the family business and begins research on homemaking efficiency.
1930 - Is named head of President's Emergency Committee for Employment.
1935-1948 - Teaches at Purdue University - the first female professor at the school.
1949 - Cheaper by the Dozen, a book written by two Gilbreth children about efficiency management techniques in the Gilbreth household, is published.
1966 - At age 88, she represents the American Institute of Industrial Engineers at a worldwide convention.
1972 Lillian Gilbreth dies on January 2.
