Imagine Nick and Nora Charles of The Thin Man film series—martinis in hand, Asta in tow—plunked down in the early 21st century… They’d be our dream clients: sophisticated, witty, a bit irreverent, and dashing. So say John and Jason of Madcap Cottage, whose designs reflect a respect for tradition tempered with bold splashes of color and playful patterns. Adds Nixon, “We love glamour and style and bring that passion to the most contemporary of homes as well as the ultra-traditional.” About :
“Good taste need not be expensive, but it should be expressive,” says John, named by House Beautiful magazine as one of America’s Top 25 Young Designers. His philosophy? “Banish the beige!” as his idol, 20th century designer Dorothy Draper once proclaimed. To that end, an interior by Madcap Cottage combines rich color, texture, and pattern in a youthful manner that pops with personality and life. Loecke is the author of The Organizing Idea Book published by Taunton Press in 2006, and John Loecke’s Grosgrain Style, published by Clarkson Potter in 2007.
The former Editor in Chief and Editorial Director of Gotham, Hamptons, Los Angeles Confidential, and Aspen Peak magazines, Jason has always been excited by the worlds of design, luxury, and glamour. Fast-forward several years and after working for Condé Nast Traveler magazine, Fodor’s Travel Guides, E! Entertainment and the Food Network, Nixon teamed up with partner John Loecke to focus on interior design.
