The “Golden Age of Animation” is a nostalgic montage of fanciful, timeless Walt Disney characters that enriched the childhood—and adulthood—of countless viewers. The Golden Age began with the invention of sound cartoons in 1928, and continued into the early 1960s. Many beloved characters emerged during this period, including Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Peter Pan. Feature-length animation also thrived during this time, particularly Disney’s first films, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” “Pinocchio” and “Fantasia,” noted for their lifelike realism. The advent of television ended animation’s Golden Age, but Disney's Oscar-winning characters live on.
