- The Artist
Torrents of plants spill over elegant, rose-tinged architecture, offsetting the majestic mountains and sapphire waters of Carl Frederik Aagaard’s “Lodge on Lake Como.” Born in Denmark, Aagaard (1833 – 1895) first studied art with his brother, a renowned glass engraver. At the Danish Royal Academy, he was instructed by many famous artists, and most strongly influenced by landscape oil painter Peter Kristian Skoovgaard. One of the most significant artists of Copenhagen’s Golden Age, Aagaard was commissioned to paint the chapel of King Christian IV.
