About the Art

Although John Rogers Cox (1915 – 1990) only painted two works in his lifetime, they profoundly influenced American Regional art. From Terre Haute, Indiana, Cox began drawing at age 5, and later received a BFA in fine arts. He was initially employed as a bank teller, but was soon appointed first director of Indiana’s Sheldon Swope Museum. Under his guidance, the museum amassed an incomparable collection of American Regionalist art. In 1942, Cox’s quintessential “Gray and Gold” won the Second Medal in the Artists for Victory exhibition at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Cox is considered to be one of America's most original Regionalist landscape painters.

I love this picture. I noticed it straightaway while looking on the website and knew it was the picture I was looking for. The contrast between the golden fields and the stunning clouds of all those shades of grey won me over. It looks great on my wall.

I love the way the frame adds to the picture rather than take away from it. Nice job art.com.

I was afraid I wouldn't like this picture in person but I love it.
