- The Artist
The leisure lifestyle of golf, polo, and tony foreign destinations are romanticized through Mark King’s mastery of Impressionism. Born to an exotic and privileged upbringing to British parents in India, at 16 he experienced the tumultuous last days of the British Raj. After graduating with degrees in botany and art in Calcutta, he sailed to England to further his art studies in painting, sculpture, architecture and theater design. After 10 years as a resident scenic designer for various theaters, he moved to Paris to study art at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and the Louvre. He studied both old and modern masters from Cimabue and Masaccio to Goya, Turner, Degas and Bonnard.
