About the Artwork

One of Chicago’s finest graphic artists of the 1920s, Arthur A. Johnson was commission by Chicago’s Transit Authority to promote the use of the city’s L-Trains for destinations other than work. Johnson, along with several other talented artists produced a series of 160 posters between 1921 and 1929, depicting the city’s elevated North and South Shore Lines which depict a different era and are highly collectable today.
