I was looking for a natural-looking large tree in black and white and this is exactly what I've wanted! It has the focal tree with numerous smaller trees in the background in a slight haze. Even though it is black and white I can visualize the green leaves; almost looks like the trees are in shade. I am so happy with it!

The majesty and mythology of the legendary live oak is elegantly captured in the diffused otherworldliness of “Silhouette Oak” by William Guion. A landscape photographer for 20 years, the South Louisiana native began photographing the oaks, historically considered to be sacred beings endowed with souls, when a mentor advised him to photograph something he cherished. Adeptly revealing the subtle details and tonal qualities in the black and white photos he shoots in the subdued fogs and mists of early morning, late afternoon or overcast days, Guion has published a book about oaks titled “Heartwood,” and his photos have been featured in many esteemed magazines, professional journals and calendars.

Guion, a Louisiana native retains his childhood fascination with these elder trees of the American landscape that he shoots throughout the South and the West. A landscape photographer for 20 years, Guion is greatly influenced by the West Coast’s large format black and white of the late 80’s. A sampling of his work has been published in his first book, Heartwood, Meditations on Southern Oaks.
