About the Art

Antonio Canova (1757 – 1822) was the most internationally successful and influential sculptor of Neoclassicism. Often influenced by themes from Antiquity, the colossal sculptures and bas-reliefs created by the Italian artist were imbued with idealistic purity. Canova thoroughly studied anatomy, which he called the secret of his art. He also observed the expressions and mannerisms of performers, and familiarized himself with ancient and modern history. He distinguished his works by employing a special method of permeating marble with a soft, mellow appearance. Canova's work was in great demand by luminaries such as Napoleon, Catherine the Great of Russia and the Duke of Wellington.

Comments:

Purchased as 1 of 3 pieces to be placed in the master bathroom, all with the same theme/sculptor. The print is of great quality and very beautiful. My issue is with the frame. I wanted silver to match the grays, whites and powder blues in the bathroom. I looked at the detail of several "silver" options at least 10 times before choosing the Eastman silver. When it arrived, it was silver with black speckles, almost as if black paint was misted onto the frame. Also, what wasn't easy to discern from the online frame detail pictures is that the Eastman has black on the outsides of the frame and there is a line/shadow of black on the inner portion as well. It is hard to explain, but I would not choose this style of frame if you are looking for a true silver frame. The next time I ordered I chose the Berlin style silver frame and that was truly silver.
