About the Art

Alex Katz is a visionary artist and pioneer of the New Realism movement. Defined by areas of flat, intense color, his art strongly impacted the Pop movement. His celebrated portraits, many featuring his wife and creative muse, Ada, exemplify the enthralling variety he brings to the genre, including dramatic variations in scale and abrupt cropping of images. Katz attained international acclaim following a large-scale retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1986. At age 80, Katz transcended his fame in small art circles, and is now recognized as a major American painter.
