About the Artwork
As steadfast as the cartoon character he brought to life, Georges Rémi, known as Hergé, created Tintin adventures from 1929 until his death. Originally from Belgium, Hergé (1907 – 1983) is considered one of Europe’s most influential comic artists. Extraordinarily popular among adults and children, his character Tintin was a dauntless young reporter accompanied by his faithful fox terrier as he embarked on numerous missions to fight the world’s evils. Hergé often expressed his controversial, right-wing opinions through Tintin, and his detailed, fluid style influenced numerous cartoonists of the Brussels school. Tintin has recently enjoyed a revival on T-shirts, mugs and pajamas, and in more than 80 million books around the world.
