About the Art

French Impressionist painter Edgar Degas, one of the great artists of the world, is most known for his paintings of girls dancing at the ballet which make up over half of his total work. Considered to be a founder of Impressionism, Degas (1834 – 1917) nonetheless rejected the movement’s penchant for painting outdoors and portraying natural light. Intent on capturing poses as natural and spontaneous as a photograph, his studies of female dancers are celebrated as supreme masterpieces and mark him as an innovator in his own right. Degas completed paintings in his studio that originated as sketches of living models, strongly influencing later artists such as Picasso and Toulouse-Lautrec.

    Comments:

When faced with a narrow wall at the far end of the livingroom i wanted to hang art work with color and interest. My client loves Impressionism and ballet. I wanted a certain size and colors that enhance the rooms schemes. It was very easy to find images to present to my client and easy for herr to select images she loved the best.

      Comments:

This giclee version was bought to replace a 40 year old framed 'calendar' version originally selected by my late wife. She would have loved this since it brings new vibrancy to the subject and suits its location superbly.

The back label can be mis-leading with regard to whether it is actually glazed in glass or acrylic.

Note: this frame style is not sealed at the back. This information might well determine whether the frame is suitable for a particular location. I suggest that this data should be included routinely at the on-line specification and ordering stage.
