The artist's most famous artwork, the piece portrays John, the disciple Jesus loved, and Peter, head of the Church, running to Jesus’ tomb on Easter morning to witness his resurrection. Burnand (1850 – 1921) was a Swiss painter who studied art in Geneva before moving to Paris, where he primarily painted landscapes.
