About the Art

Using the simple tonal palette and a misty Impressionist style, Paul Cornoyer (1864-1923) specialized in perfectly rendered scenes of cities featuring weather elements like rain or snowfall with lyrical simplicity. He also loved capturing the mood and essence of Parisian cityscapes but was impassioned by New York where, by 1900, his paintings of the city were quite popular. The American Art Association also honored him with a gold medal.
