About the Artwork  
Paul Ranson’s use of anthropomorphic branches, stems and Asian nuances in “Apple Tree with Red Fruit” is mostly symbolic, emphasizing exotic, or semi-religious motifs rather than subjects derived from nature. Ranson (1864 – 1909) was a leader of the Nabis, a group of post-Impressionist, avant-garde Parisian artists who fused nature with personal metaphors and symbols as forerunner of abstract and non-representational art. He created tapestries, stained glass, lithographs and ceramics using a linear, flowing style influenced by Art Nouveau designs and Japanese prints.

            I'd been looking at the catalog for a year and I was hesitant to buy because I was afraid the image in the catalog wouldn't 'translate' to an actual, delivered item. I was wrong! I am thrilled at the vivid colors and the subject matter seems to jump off the picture!
