About the Artwork  
“The Declaration of Independence” painted by prominent American Revolution artist John Trumbull, is a lasting testament to the men involved with this important historical event, created to immortalize them and their actions rather than to faithfully recreate the scene as it occurred. While creating this painting in his studio, one of 250 he painted in his lifetime, Trumbull left out the heads, waiting until he could complete them in person. While serving as a Revolutionary War soldier, Trumbull (1756 – 1843) drew accurate maps of enemy positions for General Washington, later commemorating important moments from the war in exceptional miniatures and small portraits.
