The handsome Douglas Fairbanks Jr. began to follow his father's path at an early age, signing his first contract with Paramount when he was 14 years old. He spent several years in supporting roles before netting leading parts in films such as The Dawn Patrol, Gunga Din, and Little Caesar. Fairbanks is photographed here, perched smiling atop a pile of equipment in a cavernous movie studio, by Cecil Beaton in the May 1930 Vanity Fair.
