Actress Elisabeth Bergner acted in German, British, and American films in the 1920s and '30s. Edward Steichen's black and white photograph of Bergner as she appeared in the play Escape Me Never appeared in the April 1935 Vanity Fair. She would go on to reprise the role on film that same year.
