A prolific writer, Robert E. Sherwood won Pulitzer Prizes for three of his plays and one for his book, Roosevelt and Hopkins. Sherwood worked as a critic for Vanity Fair, Life, and Scribner magazines, and later went on to serve as a speechwriter and adviser to President Roosevelt. Florence Vandamm shot this photograph of Sherwood in a black jacket and checkered bow tie. It appeared in the August 1925 Vanity Fair.
