Martha Graham's 70-year career as a dancer and choreographer introduced modern, expressionistic dance to a wide audience. Graham made her Broadway debut in 1926, performing her own choreography. She eventually founded the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance and the Martha Graham Dance Company. Edward Steichen's black and white photograph of Graham, taken during a performance of her Primitive Mysteries, appeared in the February 15, 1933, Vogue.
