The Royal County Down Golf Course in Newcastle, Ireland, is one of the oldest courses in that country, with over a century of history. Old Tom Morris was comissioned to design the course in 1890. The original holes, though, are split between the two courses that now exist at the site. Club member George Combe and architect Henry Colt are both credited with updating the course, which has hosted many championships over the years. Shown here is the par-4 third hole, a challenge at 477 yards with a tricky green. Photo by Stephen Szurlej, Senior Staff Photographer, Golf Digest. Royal County Down was ranked No. 1 on Golf Digest's 100 Greatest Golf Courses Outside the U.S. 2007-08.
