Published May 1, 1945For the May 1, 1945, cover of Vogue magazine, photographer Erwin Blumenfeld simplified the details of a model's face. The vintage fashion cover depicts only the model's features, shadowed beneath a visor's teal shade, and her magenta pink lips. Blumenfeld uses the same reductive technique in his famous January 1, 1950 cover of Vogue, showing model Jean Patchett's eye and lips.Photo licensed from the Condé Nast Collection, home of The New Yorker, Vogue, Vanity Fair and other popular brands. Find this and other artwork at the Condé Nast Collection. This premium giclee print, an upgrade from the standard giclee print, is produced on thick (310 gsm), textured watercolor paper made from alpha cellulous wood pulp that is acid free. It shares the same vivid colors, accuracy, and exceptional resolution that make giclee prints the standard for museums and galleries around the world. Giclee (French for 'to spray') is a printing process where millions of ink droplets are sprayed onto a high-quality paper. The smooth transitions of color gradients make giclee prints appear much more realistic than other prints.

About the Art

By combining beauty and surrealism in his fashion photography, Erwin Blumenfeld (1897 – 1869) set new standards for the genre. Imbuing glamour with thought-provoking substance, the Berlin-born photographer’s work of the 1930s through the 1950s elevated fashion photography to an art form. Blumenfeld shot countless covers for both French and American Vogue between 1945 and 1955 for which he was acclaimed as one that era’s most sought-after commercial photographers.

        Hi,
It would be great if you could add a preview option on your website when you want to buy more than one product and see how they would look together.
        I've enjoyed the rest.
        Best,
