“View from Satta Saruga” by Ando Hiroshige (1797 – 1858) depicts the mystical power of Mount Fuji, a place thought to hold the secret of immortality and a place which held tremendous personal fascination for the artist. A Japanese landscape painter and printmaker, Hiroshige originally created this lyrical work as part of a 36-piece series of Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock printing created in response to a surge in domestic travel and gained him international acclaim. Hiroshige gently and poetically portrayed the many moods of the Japanese landscape in an astounding 5,400 prints.
