About the Artwork

The “Map of Paris Depicting the City’s Famous Monuments, 1882” is a print of an authentic antique map so true to the original that it faithfully reproduces its predecessor’s fold marks. Divided into six pieces, the richly detailed map depicts monuments, churches, the Louvre, and other Parisian icons. It was originally published in a book called “La France et les Français à travers les siècles” (“France and the French through the centuries”) by Challamel Augustin which, notably, was one of the first books ever written on the social history of France.
