Toros y toreros,1959

Picasso once said 'If I hadn't been a painter, I'd have liked to be a picador.' This Indian Ink drawing, which captures a crucial moment in the second phase of the combat, the the tercio de banderillas, comes from one of three books produced between 1950 and 1960 on the bullfight theme. Throughout his work, bullfighting provided Picasso with an inexhaustible supply of ideas in which the whole virtuosity and power of his art are expressed.
