Two lush trees defy the heat of the African plains, cast in palpably fiery shades in “Kenya” by Lazlo Emmerich. Originally from Germany and raised in the Netherlands, Emmerich displayed artistic promise in his teens, and was an apprentice to prominent Flemish painter Otto Van’t Sant. Emmerich dabbled in Beat poetry, radical left-wing politics and creating large steel structures before finding his niche painting subtle imagery defined by earthy colors and distressed surfaces. Emmerich believes the solitude conveyed in his work is a source of beauty, purity and enrichment.
