As time goes by, the triple Oscar-winning classic “Casablanca” remains the quintessential story of love and sacrifice. Ignited by the chemistry between actors Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, the 1942 film explores resistance to Nazism and fascism in the Moroccan city of Casablanca. The movie premiered to rave reviews at New York’s Hollywood Theater on the same date that the Allies invaded North Africa and captured Casablanca.
One of the film industry’s most prominent illustrators, Italian artist Renato Casaro has created iconic movie posters for more than 40 years. Extremely realistic and photographically exact, Casaro’s posters have an artistic flair that has never been tainted by commercialism. Casaro first experienced international success with his poster for Dino De Laurentiis’ “The Bible,” which was turned into Sunset Boulevard’s first billboard. His more than 800 movie posters, sketches and drawings include work for “A Fistful of Dollars,” “Dances with Wolves” and “Casablanca.” Casaro has also painted a lifelike series of African wildlife images called “African Impressions.”
