I'm a lifelong fan of signage art, inspired by late 1800 French advertisements like Tournee du Chat Noir. Old wooden boxes and vintage labels and signs are beautiful pieces in and of themselves, and carry a lot of additional impact -- earthy, specific, and obviously created by and for human use. Visually more robust and defined than comparable postcards or mass produced pieces-- I love the beauty of this sign and the thoughts it inspires (I muse over how few trains ran to 42nd st then, ie) and remember different times of my life in NY every time I look at it. Wonderful to have, unexpected and satisfying.
