The Quest For A Black Christ. The black Christ painted by black artist Devon Cunningham last year on the dome of St. Cecelia Church in Detroit, is another application of the black power ideology which since 1966 has invaded both "Negro" and white churches with the formation of black caucuses. Agitation for a black Christ undergirded Marcus Garvey's Back-to-Africa movement in the 1920's, but the idea is receiving its most vigorous defense in a new book, The Black Messiah, by Detroit's Rev. Albert Cleage Jr.
This stretched canvas print is the result of sophisticated digital printing technology in which the image is printed directly onto an artist-grade, 100% cotton canvas. The canvas is then expertly stretched around 1.5" wooden bars and carefully finished with hand-painted edges. An acrylic coating protects the stunning giclee print from dust, moisture and fading. Watermark will not appear on finished product.
