Ethereal veils of diffused colors waft through the jewel-toned works of Paul Jenkins. Originally associated with Abstract Expressionism, Jenkins developed a fascination with Eastern religions, the I Ching and Carl Jung’s writings, which permeate the mysticism of his work. Studying at the Kansas City Art Institute, Jenkins experimented with ceramics and became captivated by Asian art. At New York’s Art Students League, he met icons Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman, who strongly influenced him. Jenkins created a signature style characterized by controlled paint pouring and intense, pure colors. Jenkins’ vast artistic range also encompasses sculpture, collage and lithography.
