About the Artwork  
The brilliance of the sun-haloed Italian coastline is deflected by a cool canopy of lush vines in Carl Frederik Aagaard’s classic “Amalfi Dia Cappuccini.” Known for the realism of his oil paintings, Aagaard (1833 -1895) significantly contributed to the artistic renaissance of Copenhagen’s Golden Age. Attending the Danish Royal Academy to study drawing, Aagaard was instructed by many of Denmark’s most prominent artists. He was most profoundly influenced by landscape oil painter Peter Kristian Skoovgaard. Aagaard’s own landscape exhibitions were highly acclaimed, displaying a realism honed by many trips to Switzerland, Germany and Italy.
