Published in January, 1931 by Macfadden Publications. Cover: Stanley Smith and Mary Lawlor Metro Goldwyn-Mayer players. Painted by Jules Cannert. Jules Cannert was born in Romania in 1890 and at the age of 15 he settled with his family in New York City. After serving in WWI, he began producing artwork for the covers of many pulp magazines, including True Story and True Romance. Stories about the love lives of movie stars in these two magazines were illustrated by Cannert’s evocatively romantic pastel portraits. His own personal story of true love is right in tune with the magazines for which he painted. At the age of 58, he married for the first time and died a mere six years later.
This giclée print offers beautiful color accuracy on a high-quality paper (235 gsm) that is a great option for framing with its smooth, acid free surface. Giclée (French for “to spray”) is a printing process where millions of ink droplets are sprayed onto the paper’s surface creating natural color transitions.
