Charles Burleigh Purvis (1842-1919), US physician. Purvis graduated as a medical doctor in 1865, studying at Wooster Medical College, Cleveland, Ohio. He worked as a surgeon at Howard University in Washington DC. This was one of the universities that pioneered African-American education after the emancipation of the slaves. Purvis was one of the first African-American doctors, and one of the first African-American doctors made officers in the US Army (during the Civil War). Artwork published in 1887. This giclée print offers beautiful color accuracy on a high-quality paper (235 gsm) that is a great option for framing with its smooth, acid free surface. Giclée (French for “to spray”) is a printing process where millions of ink droplets are sprayed onto the paper’s surface creating natural color transitions.
