View AllArt.com believes in the power of art to ignite imagination, creativity, and wonder, and we're thrilled to announce that our recent 'Like' Art in Schools event was a tremendous success.
We launched Art Sparks Learning to support art education in schools. By rallying the Art.com community, we ultimately gave three schools 24 works of art apiece. Art.com fans voted on galleries of art curated by each school using our MyGalleries tool.
The feedback has been simply inspiring. In San Francisco, where just one year ago a five-alarm fire destroyed Creative Arts Charter School's art supplies and books, students now enjoy their new artworks as part of a discussion-based visual curriculum. "To be able to deliver the kind of outstanding educational experience that our children deserve, we rely on partnerships with others who share this vision," says Ann Ledo Lane, the school's Director of Arts Programming. At Daniel Webster Elementary School—slated for closure just a few years back—the gift of art has catalyzed a new art history program. And across the pond, in one of London's toughest neighborhoods, students at Gloucester Primary School are creating their own works of art inspired by the art that now fills their classrooms
Despite numerous studies that have validated the benefits of art education, many schools have cut back or completely eliminated their art programs due to budget constraints. In 2013, Art.com will continue its dedication to art education programs by giving schools the gift of art each quarter. Watch for additional events like these and more opportunities to get involved.
