The Art
As founding father of abstract painting Wassily Kandinsky brings a unique take on color theory to your room Find spiritual and emotional connections with each brush stroke

Wassily Kandinsky (1886-1944), considered to be the 20th Century peer of Picasso and Matisse, believed that art is music for the soul, and that it could visually express musical compositions. He was profoundly impacted by the glistening colors of buildings in his native Russia, and he is credited with painting the first modern abstracts. “Farbstudie Quadrate,” with its rhythm of colors and shapes, is music to the eyes of children, aspiring artists and anyone who wants to grace their home with a visual symphony.

This versatile and affordable poster delivers sharp, clean images and a high degree of color accuracy. Your poster is printed with an offset lithography press with a coating to protect the inks.

The Artist
Wassily Kandinsky (1886 - 1944) is considered to be the originator of abstract art, and believed that art could visually express musical compositions. Kandinsky, who was also an accomplished musician, saw color when he heard music, and associated a color’s tone with musical timbre, hue with pitch, and saturation with the volume of sound. Music influenced his art to such a degree that Kandinsky named his works after musical terms. Originally a lawyer in his native Russia, he was inspired to study art at age 30, after seeing Monet’s “Haystacks.” Kandinsky was gripped by a compulsion to relentlessly create, and believed that if this drive were pure, it would evoke a correspondingly powerful response in viewers of his work.

Printed from a poor quality reproduction.
The reproduction itself is poor. The print made from it shows it. There are horizontal lines throughout the reprod, commonly seen in corrugated plastic children's art boards and also used to make temporary signs. More faithful reproductions of the original painting show no such lines.

Too big, too low resolution for this size poster.
The original painting is beautiful; the earring is plain and draws the eye, and is the whole point of the painting. But the poster is too granular and dark in comparison. The earring is barely recognizable as an earring. The poster was to be copied by student painters, but there really isn't anything vibrant in it.

It came in a box that was intact, but the print was crumpled
I left it in the box for the recipient, thinking that would be the nicest way to present it. When they opened it, I was embarrassed that it was creased and wrinkled as it was packaged inside the box. I've had good luck with buying framed art - I won't buy an unframed print again.
