About the Art

Infusing his Parisian ‘bon vivant’ vintage advertisement art with bright lively colors and highly pictorial style, Francisco Tamagno introduces hints of his own Portuguese origin and signature style. Tamagno can be counted among the original movement of the Turn of the 20th Century’s fanciful graphic poster tradition that is enjoying a resurgence in popularity today as vintage art. Born in Sintra, Portugal in 1851, his early artistic career was as a portrait painter before moving to Paris in the 1880’s. He became the house artist of printer Camis; preparing theatrical playbills at first, and eventually graduating to posters for railroads, bicycle manufacturers and distilleries. Tamagno died in Paris in 1923.

Cons

    Purchase Reason

    • Accent Piece
    • Decoration
    • Fill Wall Space

We needed something to add color, interest, warmth, atmosphere to a living room wall in a remodeled 1970's AFrame cabin at Mammoth Lakes, CA. The Chamonix vintage ski poster was perfect--great image, colors, detail. Will definitely purchase again from Art.com.
