Tony Abeyta is a Navajo artist from New Mexico whose works reflect his tribe’s belief that everything and everyone is gifted with a higher power. He experiments with numerous techniques, images and mediums, utilizing oil, charcoal and sand. He paints primarily in the vibrant turquoises, reds and purples that represent the colors of his homeland. Abeyta studied at the Santa Fe Institute of American Indian Art, the Maryland College Institute of Art, abroad in France and Italy, and as a graduate student at Chicago’s Art Institute. Abeyta was commissioned to create the signature image of the National Museum of the American Indian’s opening in Washington, D.C.
