Published August 1, 1952A chic couple prepares for a dockside clambake, a breeze to pull off, thanks to the new accessories of the 'portable age'—folding tables and chairs, freezer packs, plastic bags and aluminum foil—documented by John Rawlings for the August 1952 House & Garden. All this convenience, including frozen food, does not preclude the handmade touch, an embroidered Mexican cloth.Photo licensed from the Condé Nast Collection, home of The New Yorker, Vogue, Vanity Fair and other popular brands. Find this and other artwork at the Condé Nast Collection. The premium photographic print is digitally printed on high-gloss premium photographic paper. The result is a unique silver pearlescent finish with stunning visual impact and depth, suitable for museum or gallery display.

About the Art

Magazine covers materialized into multifaceted masterpieces within the lens of John Rawling's camera. His innovative work for Conde-Nast spanned three decades and the creation of more than 200 "Vogue" and "Glamour" covers, as well as a myriad of ad campaigns. Rawlings (1912-1970) single-handedly elevated commercial photography to an art form, and expanded the selling power and scope of the fashion press by imparting color and the innovative use of natural and artificial light.
