About the Art

Femmes fatales and shady characters prowl through the dramatic, seductively noir recesses of Richie Fahey’s art. Resembling illustrations from pulp fiction, Fahey’s works are actually hand-colored photos. By convincingly directing his models and utilizing vintage lighting techniques, the New York-based photographer heightens the dime-store paperback ambiance of his work. Fahey’s influences include photos from detective magazines, cinematographers from the 1940s and ’50s, and his own collection of paperbacks dating from the 1930s to the ’60s. His devious characters have been featured in galleries and magazines, and on the covers of a series of James Bond novels.
