Lava flow at night. Lava is molten rock that rises from beneath the Earth's surface. It is liquid enough to flow, forming rivers of molten rock that spread outwards into the surrounding areas. It is also hot enough to glow red, orange and white. Eventually, the lava will cool, and new volcanic rock will form. This lava flow is from the Kilauea volcano on the Pacific island of Hawaii. The Hawaiian islands are volcanic in origin, composed of the rock produced by successive volcanic eruptions. This photographic print is digitally printed on archival photographic paper resulting in vivid, pure color and exceptional detail that is suitable for museum or gallery display.
