Wildlife scenes, Roman mosaic. Mosaics consist of small pieces of coloured glass or stone, used to form an image or pattern on a floor or wall. This is a two-panel mosaic that shows a cat attacking a small hen in the upper panel. In the lower panel, the birds have been identified as chaffinches, a teal and a shelduck. Shellfish (including a scallop) are also seen, along with comber fishes (right). This mosaic, from the House of the Faun, Pompeii, is displayed in the Archaeological Museum of Naples, Italy. This photographic print is digitally printed on archival photographic paper resulting in vivid, pure color and exceptional detail that is suitable for museum or gallery display.
