Green turtle (Chelonia mydas) climbing a beach in order to lay its eggs. All turtles must come to shore to lay their eggs, which they deposit in a hole dug in the sand. The green turtle is aquatic at all other times, apart from the first dash down the beach that the newly-hatched young make. It is herbivorous, feeding on plants, usually in coastal waters. It may reach a length of around a metre and a half, making it one of the largest turtles. Photographed on Surprise Island, New Caledonia, in the southern Pacific Ocean. This photographic print is digitally printed on archival photographic paper resulting in vivid, pure color and exceptional detail that is suitable for museum or gallery display.
