Christmas tree worms (Spirobranchus corniculatus). Christmas tree worms live in tubes in hard coral. S.corniculatus lives exclusively in Porites sp. corals. They get their name from their spiral tentacles. The tentacles protrude from the tube, but are retracted when disturbed. The tentacles are used for feeding and respiration. They trap phytoplankton (microscopic algae and plants) and absorb oxygen. Photographed in the Red Sea, Marsa Alam, Egypt. This photographic print is digitally printed on archival photographic paper resulting in vivid, pure color and exceptional detail that is suitable for museum or gallery display.
