Anson's Spanish galleon capture. 18th-century artwork showing the capture on 20 June 1743 of the Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de Covadonga (left) by the British HMS Centurion (right) under the command of Commodore George Anson (1697-1762). Anson had led a squadron of ships to capture a Manila-Acapulco galleon, ships that carried vast wealth between the Philippines and Mexico. The engagement took place near Samar in the Philippines. This engraving by Walker of an artwork by British painter Samuel Wale, was published in 'A New and Complete History of England' (1773) by Temple Sydney.
