Petrus Plancius, Dutch astronomer, cartographer and clergyman, c1870. Plancius (1552-1622) was one of the founders of the Dutch East India Company, for whom he produced over a hundred maps. In 1592 he produced a world map titled Nova et exacta Terrarum Tabula geographica et hydrographica. He also produced a celestial globe including new constellations in the Southern Hemisphere, using observations provided by early Dutch expeditions to Indonesia. A print from Nederlands Geschiedenis en Volksleven in Schetsen, by J Van Lenner and J Ter Gouw. (Leiden, A W Sijthoff, c1870). This giclée print offers beautiful color accuracy on a high-quality paper (235 gsm) that is a great option for framing with its smooth, acid free surface. Giclée (French for “to spray”) is a printing process where millions of ink droplets are sprayed onto the paper’s surface creating natural color transitions.
