'The Knight and his Companion', 1887. The Knight in this cartoon is Prince Bismarck of Germany. A General Election had been held in Germany in mid-February 1887 and resulted in a healthy majority for Bismarck. However, the Socialists made great gains, reflecting the growth of socialist support, especially in Berlin where they gained some 40% of the vote. From Punch, or the London Charivari, March 5, 1887. This giclée print offers beautiful color accuracy on a high-quality paper (235 gsm) that is a great option for framing with its smooth, acid free surface. Giclée (French for “to spray”) is a printing process where millions of ink droplets are sprayed onto the paper’s surface creating natural color transitions.
