Sir William Withey Gull, 1878. Gull became physician and lecturer to Guy's Hospital in 1856. He resigned due to increased practice in 1867, but remained a consulting physician to the hospital. Regarded as an outstanding clinical physician, Gull was made a baronet in 1872 for his treatment of the Prince of Wales' severe illness with typhoid fever the previous year. From Men of Mark: a gallery of contemporary portraits of men distinguished in the Senate, the Church, in science, literature and art, the army, navy, law, medicine, etc. Photographed from life by Lock and Whitfield, with brief biographical notices by Thompson Cooper.
