Tetley shire horses outside York Minster North Yorkshire The world famous shire horses gave service to the company for years and started their work when Joshua Tetley established his brewery in Leeds in and used the horses to pull the drays As deliveries of the barrels started to be made by lorry the shire horses were kept on for ceremonial and promotional purposes but the Danish owners of Tetleys decided to retire the horses in August due to the rising cost of their upkeep The last horses used to pull the drays were retired to the Bankside Shire Stud in Thurstonland near Holmfirth
