In the space of 8 years beginning in 1922, Jones achieved enormous success in championship golf, winning 3 Open Championships, 1 Amateur Championship, 4 US Opens, 5 US Amateur Championships and being on the winning team in 5 Walker Cups. In 1930 he achieved the Grand Slam of the Open, US Open, Amateur Championship and US Amateur Championship, after which he retired from competitive golf.
